Falkirk Hire Boats provide canal boating holidays which we believe are quite different from what you may have experienced elsewhere but don’t just take our word for it..
Watch our very own Barge Captain, Tim and his story on how he discovered the beauty of cruising Scotland’s canals..
Nowhere else on a boating holiday in Scotland can you cruise into the heart of two major cities, cross mighty aqueducts, pass through tunnels, visit ancient palaces and soar 25 meters into the air on the amazing Falkirk Wheel. The canal system is both peaceful and tranquil with a minimum of boat traffic and often only the swans for company.
Falkirk Hire Boats is the only narrowboat hire company in Scotland. We are able to offer a wide selection of boating holidays through our relationships with the largest hire boat companies in the UK, as well as on our own boats.
We are based at the iconic Falkirk Wheel, which is the World’s only rotating boat lift. This is the centerpiece of the £85m project to restore life to the Lowland canal network.
Our location is the perfect starting point to cruise around the stunning canal network in central Scotland.
Start your holiday with a flight on the Wheel followed by a visit to Edinburgh, our capital city, or vibrant Glasgow, all in the comfort of your own boat. You can also cruise the flight of locks down the canal to The Kelpies, Scotland’s majestic 30ft sculptures standing at the side of the Forth and Clyde canal.
We also have our own Day Hire Boat, Jaggy Thistle through our Social Enterprise partner, Re-Union Canal Boats, click the link to see details on their website. This will give you a small taster of cruising the canals and waterways with friends or family and provides a fun day out for all. Its self manned, easy to manage and can accommodate up to 8 passengers.
You can hire our Segways to begin or finish your trip, guided tours where you can glide around the Wheel and beyond for some exhilarating fun on land. Segway provides awesome family fun and is suitable for ages 7 -78! There’s not a better way to explore the historic beauty around the land at The Falkirk Wheel.
